The mission of the Dearborn County Solid Waste Management District is to foster a sense of responsibility and inspire action by Dearborn County residents to reduce solid waste by creating an awareness and commitment to reduction, reuse and recycling programs.
who we are & what we do
The Dearborn County Solid Waste Management District was formed in 1993 to inspire and assist residents and businesses within the county to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and properly dispose of solid waste.
The District offers accessible and convenient recycling to county residents with the drive-thru Recycling Center open 37 hours each week and 13 drop off locations available 24/7. Household hazardous wastes are collected in May and September, or during Drive-Thru hours. The District also offers collection of special "Nuisance Items" such as tires, batteries and electronics. Creation Station, the first reuse program of its kind in southeastern Indiana, is a clearinghouse for materials that are made available to any Dearborn County teacher or not-for-profit educator.The District offers free educational programs to youth and adults, schools, community organizations and individuals on a variety of topics.
The District is governed by a seven-member Board of Directors, appointed by virtue of their elected positions. The Board meets on the third Thursday of each month at 11am at Lawrenceburg City Hall.
Nine members of the community serve on the Citizens Advisory Committee. The Citizens Advisory Committee was formed to collect public input and present it to the Dearborn County Solid Waste Management District Board. The committee shall study subjects as specified by the Board and may recommend addititional subjects for study. The Citizens Advisory Committee meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 7pm at the Recycling Center. Members are:

Please remember that if the Recycling Center is closed, the trailers at many locations may be fuller than usual and will be changed as soon as possible.
